GRAPHIC DESIGN & EVENT PLANNING

Plant Plug Pop Up Market

In the summer of 2022, the first plant pop-up market was held in Sunset Valley. Dozens of vendors set up booths selling a variety of plants, plant accessories, art, and ceramics. The event also featured live music, food and beverages, and informational sessions on plant care.

The plant pop-up market was a huge success, drawing hundreds of visitors from all over Texas. Encouraged by the positive response, we decided to make it a regular event, holding pop-up markets every few months.

Today, the Plant Plug Pop Up market has become a beloved institution in the city, attracting over 500 visitors at each event.

Promotional Material

My primary role was to design and execute effective advertising campaigns. One of my key responsibilities was creating promotional material such as flyers and banners that could be used in social media advertising campaigns, including Instagram, and Facebook.

Through my experience with Facebook advertising, I developed a keen understanding of the platform and its tools, allowing me to track ad performance results and analyze data to make informed decisions about future ad campaigns. I strategically choose my objective, select an appropriate audience, set a budget, utilize bidding auctions, and implement creative testing with interest targeting. By staying up-to-date with the latest tools and trends in social media advertising, I am confident in my ability to create campaigns that drive results.

Digital Marketing

I applied the skills and knowledge I acquired during my MSM Program, particularly in Digital Marketing, to effectively utilize the Ads Manager.

I focus primarily on these metrics:

Reach

Engagement Ranking

Clickthrough Rate (CTR)

Impressions

Conversion Rate Ranking

Quality Ranking

Costs per Click (CPC)

Cost per Mile (CPM)

Bounce Rate

Participating as a Vendor

Through vending at the Plant Plug Pop Up Market with my small business, BotanyBae, I’ve learned a multitude of lessons.

I’d like to share them with you!

Be Ready to Give Your 100% + Some

Running a small business is a demanding task that requires a lot of dedication, hard work, and patience since you have to perform multiple roles depending on the situation. As a business owner, I have had to balance being a product developer, bookkeeper, website designer, photographer, salesperson, and more. Although it hasn't been an easy journey, the satisfaction of running a successful small business and seeing the hard work pay off makes it all worthwhile.

Embrace In-Person Connections

I originally started selling to friends and then pivoted to e-commerce through Etsy. Creating and vending at my first pop up was a step out of my comfort zone. I quickly learned that pop ups are a great place to meet many people & connect with other businesses. I have enjoyed being able to personally connect with my customers (& friends!) and gain real time feedback. In addition, by vending, several opportunities have naturally presented themselves. I was able to land my first wholesale order of over 50 items!

Be Yourself and Be Authentic

It is crucial to be authentic because customers can sense the energy and authenticity you convey. Staying true to oneself is the most effective approach to attract individuals who share similar values and appreciate the passion you have for your work. As beginners, we often attempt to imitate what we perceive to be successful, which may not genuinely reflect who we are and our unique contributions.

Stay the Course & Never Give Up

It's essential to remember that not every event or venture will go according to plan. However, it's crucial to stay the course and not give up when things don't turn out the way I had hoped.

Every setback provides a chance to evaluate what went wrong, what I could have done better and identify areas where we can improve my approach for the future. It's essential to take a step back, re-evaluate my strategy, and make adjustments that will increase chances of success the next time around.

Every experience, whether positive or negative, provides an opportunity to learn and grow, and with perseverance and determination, we can all overcome any obstacle and achieve our goals.

Finally, Treat Yourself

Vending and the preparation involved is demanding and can lead to feelings of burnout and being overwhelmed. One way to combat these feelings is to remember to love ourselves in the process and treat ourselves to things we enjoy every now and then.

I always end each pop-up with a nice warm bowl of pho, which is one of my favorite comfort foods. This small treat provides me with an opportunity to unwind, reflect on the day's events, and acknowledge the hard work that went into making the event a success.
